Edoja Okpokunu was born into the Okpokunu Onoyake family of Odorubu-Ughelli in the Delta State of Nigeria. He was educated at several institutions which include the University of Benin, Benin City in Nigeria, and the Université du Bénin in Lomé, Republic of Togo, from 1976 to 1990. Mr. Okpokunu has a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree in Sociology and Anthropology and an Masters of Arts in French.
