Dialogue Education is a transformative,
learning-centered framework for effective adult
learning, transfer and retention first described by
educator, Jane Vella in the 1980’s. Dialogue
Education shifts the focus of education from what
the teacher says to what the learner does, from
learner passivity to learners as active participants
in the dialogue that leads to learning, from seeing
learners as objects to be acted upon or to receive
content to seeing subjects with respected life
experience acting upon content. The content are
presented to learners as open questions to be
reflected on and integrated into the learner’s own
context and then links directly what learners do
in a learning event to desired changes on the job,
across organizations as well as in personal lives.
