| Name | Changing Policies and Attitudes: Post Abortion Care in the Philippines |
| Description | Compass, 2003, No. 1. Intended broadly for the professional community involved in international public health and development, Compass is a periodic publication featuring snapshots of the results of EngenderHealth's work in the areas of family planning, prevention of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, and maternal care. This issue reports on how women suffering complications from incomplete abortion were managed with a greater degree of clinical safety, efficiency, and humanity, thanks to a program called Prevention and Management of Abortion Complications (PMAC). Developed and implemented in the Philippines by EngenderHealth in collaboration with the nation's Department of Health, PMAC also promoted an evolution in providers' attitudes and values, which led to improved counseling skills, better care for postabortion clients, and increased use of manual vacuum aspiration in the clinical treatment of complications. |
